Nicola Dean

Medical Herbalist & Naturopath, B.A, N.D, MSc Herbal Medicine (Dist), Director H2K Otago Ltd

Nicola is a longstanding professional member of the NZAMH, achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree (Otago) and a Diploma in Naturopathy, Diploma of Clinical Herbal Medicine at the Canterbury College of Natural Medicine, where she also practiced. Nicola has worked as a Training and Technical Manager for Thompson Nutrition, roles which included product development, technical research and delivering nationwide seminars to health stores, pharmacy’s and medical professionals. She has lectured to students at universities, been involved in NZQA approved course development and written articles for local and overseas industry journals.

She has recently completed a MSc Herbal Medicine at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) and has undertaken research into professional development, specifically investigating the processes involved in an optimal mentoring system for NZ Medical Herbalists and Naturopaths. At the 2016 NZAMH Conference Nicola presented an overview of the current literature on mentorship in healthcare and discussed the findings of her research. She is currently on the NZAMH Committee helping to develop a robust mentoring programme.

Nicola also runs a busy clinic in a Psychotherapy practice, and alongside her husband, operates four Health 2000 stores in the Otago region
